Whodini, Beastie Boys  & Run-DMC

I hear heads talk about “another golden era” and everything is “classic” - for ya’ll who were born just 20 years ago and call everything “classic”
There’s really only one classic era of hip-hop “79 - 85” roughly - that’s when they didn’t even officially call it “hip-hop” it was still “rap music”
Only one real “golden” era - “86-89” (roughly) - when the term and culture “hip-hop” really defined itself. Let’s face it, Rakim changed the game.
and after that - “90 - 95 maybe 96” was hey day years….expansion to the west coast, gangsta-rap, shyt got way more street, etc….the south had a few in the golden era  (shout out MC. Shy D) and of course bubbled in th hey day - but didn’t reealllly start  poppin - like taking over this shyt as it does today..until “00ish”
and this shyt we on now is some other shyt….that still has the spirit of the original expression but has way far strayed or evolved from the root.
So assuming that we can’t go back….just like in life…you gotta ask yourself far as “hip-hop”
what’s the next shyt?
